A New Star for Patchwork Stitches: All Hallows
I’m so delighted to share this month’s addition to the Patchwork Stitches Stitch-Along: All Hallows. This quilt-inspired block is a star pattern — timeless, bold, and full of meaning. Star blocks have been a part of quilt-making for centuries, often symbolizing guidance, hope, and a sense of home. They were especially popular in the 19th century, when quilters stitched them as a way to honor traditions, mark life’s milestones, and sometimes even to tell stories in fabric.
For our All Hallows block, I’ve drawn from that history while keeping it stitched in the same palette as the rest of the quilt, so it blends beautifully into the whole design. The name itself is a gentle nod to October — the season of long shadows, flickering candles, and harvest celebrations. Every time I look at this star, I see a little piece of that October magic stitched right into the quilt. I can’t wait to see how this block shines in your hoops and in your growing patchwork.
Cozy October Days at Home
As I write this blog post, I’m soaking in the most beautiful fall sunshine. The colors are at their peak — crimson maples, golden birches, and leaves that look as if they’ve been brushed with copper. I’m trying to drink in every ounce of it, knowing how fleeting these perfect fall days can be.
Later today, I’ll be putting the final touches on this month’s newsletter, and then I’m giving myself the gift of a few hours to stitch in glorious autumn peace. My only dilemma? Do I tuck myself into my cozy living room, with its soft cushions, sunshine spilling through the window, and the mantle decorated in all my favorite fall treasures? Or do I settle outside, surrounded by the incredible colors of nature? What a wonderful dilemma to have — one that I think only October can offer.
These little moments of choice — tea or coffee, inside or outside, pumpkin bread or apple scones — are what make fall so magical for me. Life is busy, but pausing to notice the small joys feels like a way of gathering gratitude into each day.
What You’ll Find in This Month’s Newsletter
This month’s newsletter is brimming with all the things I love about October, and I can’t wait for you to read it. Here’s a little peek at what’s inside:
- A playlist of cozy songs to stitch and sip tea by.
- A list of books perfect for the season — from ghostly Halloween tales to heartwarming stories of gratitude.
- A recipe for apple cinnamon scones (which my kids devoured so quickly I had to guard a few for myself!).
- A look at two of my favorite patterns in the shop: a sweet little ghost under the full moon and the rich autumn warmth of Gather.
- And of course, our Colour of the Month — a thread that glows with the spirit of October.
Each piece is chosen with love, and together they feel like a big autumn hug waiting in your inbox.
