As July unfolds and the sun blazes high in the sky, we are transported back to those magical days of childhood summer vacations. Remember the joy of waking up with no schedule, the excitement of packing up for a day at the beach, and the endless hours spent building sandcastles by the shore? This month, I’m thrilled to introduce a sandcastle pattern that captures all those nostalgic feelings and more.
Tribute to Simple Summer Pleasures
This Sandcastle Cross-Stitch Pattern is a tribute to the simple pleasures of summer. Growing up in Eastern Ontario, where lakes and rivers are plentiful, much of my summer was spend exploring the lake shore and lazing in the sand. Swimming lessons were a large part of our summer and they were held each day at the local beach. Since I was the oldest of a number of siblings, we usually spent a good part of the day at the beach while we all had our lessons.
These endless days, often included biking the 6 km down dusty country roads to the public beach, making sure to stop at the creek bed along the way to catch frogs. Followed by hours of reading on the beach, building tremendous sand castles with intricate moats and of course being buried in the hot sand. Generally these activities were followed by my Mom brining snacks or a picnic lunch, after which we had more beach time before heading home, exhausted, sandy and smelling like lake water, sunshine and sun screen.
Family Moments at the Beach
Those days are decades past now but the timeless feeling of the beach returns to me when I take my own children there. We try and go every opportunity we can, and often that means shutting down my computer for the day and loading all the kids and beach gear into the car for an evening dip. We are incredibly blessed to have the most beautiful beach just a short car ride away. Most evenings there isn’t even another soul there and we have the whole beach to ourselves.
Admittedly, I’m not a huge fan of swimming, but I do love to take my stitching, or a good book and read while the the kids splash and swim. Often we will build family sandcastles and the children love it most when their Dad gets involved. Together they make entire villages and competing kingdoms each with their own castle! This month, I wanted to capture the love my family has of sharing this family summer activity and I hope that as you stitch this sandcastle pattern, you will be reminded of those lost childhood moments spent at the beach or seaside!
Sandcastle Pattern Details
Picture yourself on a warm, sandy beach with the waves gently lapping at your feet. This delightful pattern features a majestic sandcastle, intricately designed with turrets and arches, reminiscent of the masterpieces we all strived to build as kids. At its base, you’ll find seashells scattered around, adding a touch of beachcombing adventure.
The scene is completed with a serene blue ocean in the background, where seagulls soar gracefully in the skies above. The use of coastal colors brings this pattern to life, making it a perfect project to stitch during those long summer afternoons.
Perfect for Summer Stitching
There’s something inherently soothing about stitching a summer scene while soaking up the season’s warmth. This sandcastle pattern is not just a project; it’s an experience that allows you to escape to the beach, even if you’re miles away. Let the rhythm of your needle and thread take you to a place of peace and tranquility, where the only thing on your agenda is to enjoy the moment.
Happy Stitching,
Jeannie
