As April unfurls its wings and sweeps away the remnants of winter, I find myself enveloped in the enchanting embrace of spring. It’s a time of renewal, of rebirth, and of vibrant transformations. In the pattern for April, I’ve tried to capture an image that speaks to the joy of spring and promise of new life about to burst forth!

April Showers Bring May Flowers

Ah, April showers – those gentle kisses from the sky that nourish the earth and awaken dormant seeds from their slumber. In our household, it is the season of garden planning, walks around the freshly revealed backyard after the snow has disappeared to admire the bright green of daffodil and tulip bulbs bursting forth. It is the month of Easter and bunnies and hidden eggs and most of all, a month to enjoy as much time outdoors while we are still blackfly and mosquito free! Winter snow gear is cleaned and packed away, replaced with rain boots, spring jackets and ball caps. Inevitably it is also the month of rain showers and mud puddles. Many nights the raindrops dance upon the windowpanes, creating a symphony of sound that lulls the world into a peaceful trance leaving the world refreshed and sparkling by morning.

Rain Boots, Puddle Jumping and our Easter Tree

Our Easter Tree for 2024. It is decorated with colourful easter eggs painted and dyed by our family over the years.

As my children don their rain boots and spring jackets, they venture outside to explore the magic of April. Puddles become playgrounds, and every raindrop is an invitation to dance. With each splash, they embrace the joy of spontaneity and the thrill of discovery, reminding us to find beauty in the simplest of moments. One of our favorite spring time rituals is the hunt for the Easter tree. Rain boots and jackets, sometimes spring gloves are donned and out the kids head to forage for the perfect tree branch to decorate with all their easter egg treasures created over the years. Our easter tree is generally a branch sporting lots of sprigs and twigs stuck upright into a bucket with rocks to hold it in place. It gets place of pride in front of the fire place and is lovingly decorated with a variety of colourful easter eggs.

Capturing the Essence of April in Stitch

For the April pattern I tried to encapsulate the spirit of the season, featuring a charming depiction of rain boots adorned with a bouquet of tulips. Each stitch is a tribute to the resilience of nature and the boundless optimism of spring. As you stitch, I hope you imagine the gentle rhythm of the rain, the vibrant hues of emerging blooms, and the laughter of children echoing through parks, playgrounds and backyards.
